noyou - We’re So Sorry

Describing themselves as “synthy, fuzzy, electronic, fun, pop, rock,” the Sunderland outfit certainly sound exciting, and that’s exactly what they are.

Originally starting as the, solo, creative outlet of Connor Jobes, noyou then evolved into a six piece live band.

Covering the heavy rock undertones in big synth pop riffs creating an indie sound that you can’t stop listening to. Early singles The War and The Distance have been repeatedly followed up with soothing pop bangers.

Creating quite a stir, noyou have burst onto the North East of England music scene, performing in well-known venues such as Riverside (Newcastle), Independent (Sunderland) and The Cluny (Newcastle) whilst also working alongside nationally acclaimed promoters Scruff Of The Neck and SSD Concerts.

Success has been rife away from gigs too with the band featuring on Tipping Point’s ‘Tipper of the Week’ as well as gaining radio play from BBC Introducing in the North East.

Their latest single We’re So Sorry is released today, Thursday 30 July and creating the track was a more involved process than usual for the band with keys player Joey singing lead vocals on the second verse. The band also gathered a large group of friends (including Robyn Walker of Picnic/bigfatbig) to lend a hand with the chorus backing vocals.

When asked specifically about the lyrical content of the new single noyou frontman, Connor Jobes, explained:

We’re So Sorry looks to explore the recent happenings in the world regarding racism, from the perspective of someone who doesn’t know what they can do to aid the progress.

He then went on to discuss how he personally always struggles with these issues and is on a constant journey of learning. Connor also added:

Throughout the whole thing all I found myself wanting to say was sorry. Sorry that the world is like this and people allow these things to happen.

We’re So Sorry is a tuuuune !!! It’s a stunning track, with the melody guaranteed to be uplifting no matter the mood, it’s a perfect Summery indie pop banger.

It’s got some great guitar hooks and drums but this song is driven by the rhythm created with the synths which are steeped in 80’s pop history.

The lyrics recognise Connors struggles in dealing with recent events and the need to educate to tackle them head on as he admits when he sings the opening lines “I saw your face on the news, I heard it, it made me nervous so I looked away something I always do and I’m so sorry”

and continues when he sings “I know we mess with the truth, they say it and never mean it, it’s just a way to save face if I could say it to you I’d say we’re so sorry”.

We’re So Sorry is a glorious gem of a track, perfect feel good music, which I guarantee will have you dancing along before the first lines kick in.

Yet another band who are on my must see list when gigs resume, god I’m going to be busy !!!
