The Super Moons - You’re Not Alone

Hailing from Edinburgh in Scotland, The Super Moons have been together for around three years, they are James Aitken (lead guitar/vocals), Krzysztof Ciesielka (drums/percussion), Geoff Hamilton (vocals/guitar/harmonica), Jason Kruger (bass) and David Wilson (vocals/acoustic guitar).

Their influences are wide and varied and include the likes of Lee Dorsey, The Yardbirds, The Stone Roses, Jake Bugg, Paul Weller, Northern Soul, Stax, Bill Withers, The Prisoners, John Fulbright, Bob Marley, Toots & The Maytals, Small Faces, The Strypes, The Who, Curtis Mayfield, Gil Scott-Heron, The Doors, Ray Charles, Ray LaMontagne, Queens of the Stone Age, The Allah-Las and loads more.

Last year saw them release All About You which was the first I had heard of the band, I loved the track and have been waiting in anticipation of new music from them since then.

They released their latest track You’re Not Alone on Friday 19 February and it’s been well worth the wait, this is a brilliant song.

To term a football analogy it’s a song of two halves, it’s first half is dark, reflective and melancholic dealing with the issues that we could all encounter in everyday life. The instrumentation is broody and sets a real sense of despair struggling to deal with life, it’s perfectly described in the lyrics when Aitken sings “if you’re busking or begging or selling while you’re out in the streets, it may not be pretty but shitty in the rain, snow and sleet.”

And the chorus of “you’re not alone …….” is stretched out to illustrate those struggles.

Boom !! the second half explodes into action, the track picks up the pace and there seems to be real optimism now in the chorus of “you’re not alone ……” there is a real sense that if you’re struggling there is someone there to help you deal with it, perhaps things are not as bad as they seem !

You’re Not Alone is a fantastic track, its twists and turns of the storytelling and instrumentation are sublime, one minute you are enclaved in darkness then suddenly the walls around you burst open and swathe you in brilliant sunshine.

The Super Moons were on my must sees before we went into lockdown last year and are now even more so after this fabulous song.
