Skylights - Time To Let Things Go

Skylights have come off one of their most successful years to date but are clearly not resting on their laurels as they release in my opinion their best track to date Time To Let Things Go.

It got a limited 7” vinyl release in translucent blue and the cover artwork by Paul Evan’s is absolutely stunning.

Skylights through hard work and perseverance and great social media engagement have seen them garner a loyal and ever growing fan base leading them to secure festival slots and supporting some huge Indie names such as Shed Seven and Cast.

Skylights are Rob Scarisbrick (vocals), Turnbull Smith (guitar), Jonny Scarisbrick (bass) and Myles Soley (drums).

Joining them on Time To Let Things Go are Julia Violinista (strings) and Ian Surgenor (keyboards).

When asked about the track guitarist Turnbull Smith said:

“It reflects on life as if every moment has been written in a book; good and bad experiences, pivotal decisions and hard choices where you have had to let things and people go, no matter how hard it was to do, to ultimately change your path in life for the better.”

Time To Let Things Go is an uplifting yet melancholic and beautifully heartfelt song and it starts with Turnbull’s acoustic guitar accompanied by Surgenor’s piano keys and builds from there oozing in emotion before the opening lyrics kick in.

And the emotion is clear throughout the track as this sees Rob bring his most fragile vocal yet especially when singing the lyrics “Looking back through life's mistakes, remember how that some were great. We've all been there, we've been down, hold on tight won't let you drown, take a pill to hide the pain, thinking life won't be the same. Hold your head up and do stand tall, jealousy won't see you fall”.

The track and its construction let you feel the poignancy of the lyrics but overall it leaves the listener with a real sense of hope and optimism that things will get better.

I absolutely love this song and for me is their best release to date in a catalogue of bangers, give it a listen and see if you agree.
