The Dunts - Learn
The Dunts are a Glasgow based 4 piece indie punk band, they are Rab Smith (vocals/guitar), Colin McGachy (guitar/vocals), David McFarlane (bass/vocals), and Kyle McGhee (drums).
Spat from the growing Glasgow punk scene they play incendiary punk songs and have rapidly become one of Scotland’s hottest exports.
Their songs demand immediate attention as their ‘council-punk’ sound boasts vicious yet intelligently energetic anthems,
The Dunts recorded both their debut EP Not Working Is Class and highly-anticipated follow up Self Proclaimed Council Punk with producers Chris Marshall (Gerry Cinnamon, Rascalton, The Van-T’s) and Johnny Madden (of Baby Strange).
Of their debut release, the stand-out track Dimitri gained ardent radio support from BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway, Radio X’s John Kennedy and BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens - who crowned the single ‘Pick Of The Week’.
Upon unleashing Self Proclaimed Council Punk, lead track Birds and The Beez and subsequent single Witch Hunt also gained Stephens’ coveted accolade and saw their sound taken to an international audience receiving airplay on stations like Los Angeles’ KROQ and also on US college radio stations.
Their punk offerings inspired by their council estate upbringings led the NME to say:
Their fast-living, politically infused anthems make the band a strong force to be reckoned with. If you haven’t heard of The Dunts, you soon will.
Their sound transfers into their live performances and they have left a trail of sold out shows behind them culminating in a sell out of SWG3 in their hometown just before the outbreak of the dreaded C word.
Their latest single Learn is released today, Friday 3 April 2020 on 7 West Music and has The Dunts signature all over it, fantastic guitar riffs, great melodies and confident vocals.
It starts off with great rhythm, a chunky guitar riff, and drums that set a blistering pace and they then toy with the song with slowed passages before increasing it back to the trademark breakneck speed.
It’s a thought provoking intelligent song all about life’s lessons and taking them on board to learn from them and it delivers a chant along chorus of “and its a lot for me to take when my life’s at stake, I hear your words to spur me on to learn by my mistakes” perfect for playing live.
I love this song, it’s an absolutely monster of a tune, and if this is an indication of what we can expect from their much anticipated debut album, all I can say is “hurry up and get it bloody released”.
