The Lotts - We Are The Lotts

The Lotts are a Warrington based four piece garage punk band, they are Henry Bucanan (vocals/guitar), Adam Bridge (guitar), Joel Norton (drums) and Jamie Evans (bass).

The band’s main influences are Beefheart, Zappa, The Stooges and The New York Dolls with a hefty blend of the Velvet Underground. Yet intriguingly these artists only became known to the band when other people began making comparisons.

At first the Lotts were just doing what they did; it wasn’t about copying anyone. They were inspired to pick up guitars by Ty Segall and Mac Demarco but the sound that evolved was from another era entirely.

Their debut EP We Are The Lotts was produced and mixed by Thighpaulsandra at Monmouth’s Rockfield Studios, the five track EP was released on Friday 24 July.

The opening track We Are The Lotts is a blast of garage punk, raucous guitars and frenzied drumming give this a foot stomping high energy melody, it’s a great intro to the vibe of The Lotts.

I Don’t continues in the same vein, it’s another high energy track, buzzing along with the melody of raging guitars this is another track that grabs your attention.

This is followed by Dumb which gives a slight change in tact, don’t get me wrong the full on assault on the ears continues, but the track with its jangly guitars gives it a much more poppy feel to it.

Next up is Preacher Man and continues with the same high energy enthusiasm that The Lotts are renowned for, if the beers aren’t already flying by the time they play this live, then this will guarantee it.

The final song Mouth is the slowest track on the album, featuring prominent guitar riffs and a subdued almost muffled vocal, it has a psychedelic feel to it, reminiscent in parts to The Velvet Underground, and then it fades out with a bit of a fuzzbomb finish.

This is a great debut from a band that does not have any frills, they make it clear they are going to go straight for the knockout punch with their pounding no nonsense brand of garage punk rock and boy does it deliver, it will knock you off your feet, pick you back up and knock you down again!!!
