Bristol based atmospheric alt pop quartet Alesund are Alba Torriset (vocals/keys), Lloyd Starr (guitar/synth), Jake Bright (bass) and Jai Widdowson-Jones (drums).

Following up on the 2020 release of their second EP All Hail To Your Queen, Alesund are back with with Lightning which was released on Friday 26 February.

Commenting on the track Alba states:

Lightning was written about that feeling you have before making a big life decision, or waiting for another to make that decision which will in turn impact your own life. When you just need to pluck up the courage and take the plunge into the unknown. However, if you truly trust and believe in something, good things will come out of it.

Lightning is a fantastic piece of dream pop, the melody is set by a folk inspired guitar riff which grabs your attention, the brilliant production sees a layering of sounds, including some almost acoustic sounding drums creating a very atmospheric track.

Despite the fabulous production of the track it is Alba’s vocals that steal the show, they are gorgeous, they float beautifully with the enchanting melody of the song, it’s dream pop and it lifts you up and transports you to a place of spirituality!

Lightning is the lead single from the forthcoming EP A Thread in the Dark and it certainly whets the appetite to hear the rest of the release.
