Silver Club - Ode To Lem

Silver Club hail from the land of the pink slice, cheesy chips and blue panda pop or as you may know it better, Sunderland.

They are Dan Cuddihy (vocals/guitar), Aaron Morton (keyboard/vocals), Danny Baister (lead guitar), Ashley Bell (rhythm guitar), Martin Wilkinson (bass) and Adam Baister (drums/percussion).

The band not only share a mutual love of local tasty bites, but also the psych surf tendencies of Tremelo and Juno synthesiser goodness. The songs bring a huge variety of tones, Morricone meets Tame Impala sandwiched together with a vintage 60's edge.

They released their debut single Shadows earlier in the year and they are now following this up with their sophomore release Ode To Lem.

When asked about the new single the band commented:

we feel this track encapsulates what Silver Club is all about. Lyrically the song tackles subjects of self deprecation, elongating the drive home and disorderly garden landscaping, with a 007 style riff fully engulfing it into surf rock journey. Ode to Lem was a real collaborative effort from the entire band, and the recording process with Ryan Ailano took the song exactly where we wanted it to go.

The track was released on Friday 19 June 2020 and it’s a great track, harnessing some fascinating ideas and showing marvellous ambition.

It’s got a fantastic guitar riff which sets up the track with an engaging rhythm, there are also some very good solo guitar sections which really creates that impression of the song being part of a movie soundtrack.

Lyrically, there are some very good lines, I particularly liked “late afternoon approaches I’m already down to size, to dance with the devil they kept going for me but I guess I’ll improvise”.

I really enjoyed Ode to Lem, it’s got some great musicianship and really strong vocals which complement the track and it is a huge showcase for the talent of Silver Club. If I were to be slightly critical it is perhaps a little too long for any mainstream radio play, but that shouldn’t stop you from giving it a listen, and giving this talented band some love.
