The Pylons - Mona

London based five piece The Pylons released their first single of 2022 Mona on the 4 February.

The track is self-produced at RYP Recordings and mastered by Andy ‘Hippy Baldwin’ at Metropolis Studios.

To go alongside the song, the music video for Mona was created through boredom and sheer creativity. They wrote and filmed a TV show in their living room which was based on a 70s talk show. 'Vincent Relish's Days of Future Past' it saw long time collaborator and sound engineer Barny host a show which included a house band (The Pylons no less), an interview with special guests, a cookery segment, sports news, street reporter interviewing the public (again played by the band), an ad break and more.

Speaking about the track, the band said:

MONA was hauled out from between the sofa cushions of our demos folder, an old favourite that took us a long time to bring ourselves to finish and release, for fear of it being gone. MONA is the self-perpetuating narrative that runs through one's mind as you see what you desire at a distance further than can be reached. This track has been strained and filtered through our collective struggles of the past few years and is ultimately a reflection of who we were before through the lense of who we are now.

Mona is a fantastic track, a slice of indie pop perfection, shimmering guitars create a gorgeously infectious melody which is underpinned by a brilliant drum beat.

I love their lyrics especially the verse “Mona, a rope between so I can’t hold ya, next time we meet we’ll both be older. If you can make it I will see you there, I will see you there”.

There is no doubt The Pylons are stepping into a crowded indie pop market but with tracks like Mona they will be able to navigate themselves a direct path to the top of the tree.

You can catch The Pylons at London’s iconic The Underworld supporting FAERS on the 2nd of April.
