Minerva Daisy - Something Strange

Manchester based alternative pop singer-songwriter and keyboardist, Minerva Daisy, released her fourth single Something Strange on 16 February.

It was recorded and produced by Tayte Nickols at Mad Fox in Manchester.

It follows the success of Minerva Daisy’s previous releases, some of which have been featured on BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and have gained a multitude of track of the week nominations and artist features.

Minerva Daisy is also known for her creative artwork and this cover is no exception. The cover art was hand drawn by Minerva Daisy and is heavily inspired by Alfred Hitchcock & Saul bass posters with a Hollywood glamour edge. Original photo credit to Thomas Hetzel.

When asked about the story behind Something Strange, Minerva Daisy said:

Something Strange was written as an emotional outlet almost immediately after I found out an ex partner had been unfaithful to me. This is probably one of the most raw and brutally emotional tracks that I have written and so I wanted the instrumentation to reflect that and give the track the punch it needed. I wanted to show my audience a new side to me and my music.

And Something Strange certainly does show a different side, it’s darker and it’s heavier not surprising considering the subject matter but with that knife on the artwork she has delivered a beautiful slice of pop rock.

The track kicks off with its crunching piano notes, with a catchy guitar riff underpinning the track and the drums being used sparingly to snare you in to what is a delicious piece of pop rock which is a step away from previous releases.

Minerva Daisy is not frightened to use her lyrics to confront head on the subject matter as outlined with the well crafted line “there’s something strange in that look in your eyes my feelings are in control, there’s a lump in your throat I hope it swallows you up, you say you don’t remember, what do you take me for.”

Something Strange gives us a different sound from Minerva but one that she delivers in her usual confident manner, the ability to deliver a much heavier pop rock track will certainly keep us guessing on what to expect next, but whatever it is it will surely keep driving this talented performer upwards.
