Formed as a low key supergroup, with members of Laurens Court, Fracas and Rhythm, Wood & Shapes, Kickin’ Lilies was founded in late 2018 they are Ethan Burford (Guitar), Cameron Henderson (Drums), James Boak (Vocals), Morgan Punton (Guitar) and Kyle Stoops (Bass).

The alt rock five-piece began performing in their hometown of Sunderland, supporting North East fast risers Docksuns and The Pale White for two sold out shows at Independent (350-capacity venue).

Starting the year with a bang, they were named as one of Independents must see acts for 2020. Heading into the local studio, Motorhouse, (owned by Jordan Miller and Jack Wade of Vandebilt) for a two day stint, Kickin’ Lilies recorded their debut single All These Bad Dreams which was released on Monday 6 July 2020.

Speaking specifically about the track vocalist James Boak explained

lyrically it focusses on the way in which negativity can affect how a person thinks or behaves.

All These Bad Dreams opens up with a stunning guitar riff and some fantastic drumming that really sets the tone of the track.

The track has a real buzz about the melody, it engages you with the song and the band mix it up throughout with some fantastic guitar hooks that change the energy and pace of the song.

Lyrically, it’s got some very well written verses, I particularly loved the lines “And now they’re in my ear whispering words that they just don’t care, there’s no despair from everybody round here loves to declare that maybe there’s nothing out there, I really think I gotta get out there”.

All These Bad Dreams is an absolutely fantastic debut single, it showcases Kickin’ Lilies great musicianship and the strength of vocal, this bodes well for a band that I’m keen to hear more from. Great start guys.
