Macaroom ft. Post Coal Prom Queen - Body of Water
Body of Water is the first collaboration between Scottish electronic alt-pop duo Post Coal Prom Queen (the duo behind the band L-space) and Japanese electro-pop band Macaroom.
Macaroom are a Japanese electro-pop band founded by vocalist Emaru and composer Asahi. They’ve released three acclaimed albums, room-103 (2010), homophone TE (2016), and swimming classroom (2018) and several EPs, including a pop recomposing of John Cage’s work. Asahi, also known as Gaku Kiishi, is the author of the best-selling book Decomposition - an easy way to compose contemporary music.
Post Coal Prom Queen are Lily Higham and Gordon Johnstone, the songwriting duo behind the band L-space and their three critically acclaimed albums; Kipple Arcadia (2018), Music for Megastructures (2019), and Feed The Engines! (2020). Their songs have been heard on BBC Radio 1, 6Music, and BBC Radio Scotland.
Body of Water was released today, Friday 15 May 2020 and wow it’s a stunning collaboration between the two parties. It’s a fantastic acoustic sounding electro pop track, it’s got a very dreamy sound to it, which is perfectly suited to Lily’s beautiful haunting vocals, which are complemented by Emaru’s native Japanese rap, together the two vocal styles give Body of Water a real unique feel.
Body of Water has some gorgeous arrangements accompanied by some experimental sounds giving the song a real hazy atmosphere, it is a great song for evenings in the garden, glass in hand, sitting chilling to the amazing melodies of this track.
I loved this collaboration, a meeting of collective minds to create an ultimate feel good Summer vibe, hopefully, there is more to follow.
