Katie Mackie - Glow

Katie Mackie is a pop artist hailing from the north east of Scotland. After bursting onto the scene in 2018 as a solo artist, Katie has established herself as a solo performer, playing shows across the country supporting the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Heather Small of M People and Mo Kenny to name a few.

Since the release of her synth-pop album Kick It in the Head in 2018, Katie has focused on developing her writing and growing as an artist which has brightened her pathway into a different musical direction.

Having spent the last few years performing solo as well as with Glasgow based ban 'American Clay, Katie has spent her time refining her songwriting and is shown at her best with new single Glow, the first of many new exciting fresh releases to come.

When asked about Glow Katie says:

Instead of trying to piece things together and constantly look at everything we go through in life with a magnifying glass, its sometimes better to let them go. Not everything has an explanation, not everything needs one.

Glow was written amidst a difficult month in 2019 in which Katie dealt with multiple forms of loss. It was produced by JP O’Grady and was released on Friday 20 November.

Glow is a brilliant track, it’s a piano led piece of pop perfection, it has a catchy melody that the ear tunes straight in to. It is an intimate and fragile track focusing on loss, it is sung by Katie with a fantastic vocal full of heartfelt emotion.

Although the song is about dealing with loss, it is very upbeat in its outlook, focusing on turning the negatives into positive memories, a tale about dealing with the dark times and shining a light on the memories left behind, beautifully captured when Katie sings “the fragments still not found, its time to let them go, we'll light them 'til they glow”.

Glow is a woven track of intricate instrumentation, it’s beautiful piano melody, some deep bass and a shimmering synth put together with a glittering vocal which sparkles throughout the song give a real feel of hope and positivity to the track.

Apologies to Katie for not being too aware of her music before being sent this track, but that has now been corrected and she is now firmly on my radar as one to watch !
