Post Rome - Want to Believe
From childhood friends to North East ones to watch, Sunderland based alternative pop/rock trio Post Rome are flying high. The trio are Jamie Martin (drums), Jasper Watson (bass/vocals) and Ben Goodfellow (guitar/vocals).
Starting 2020 with a bang they were named as a must see act by Sunderland’s premier venue, Independent, the band certified this with their March headline show launching 2020’s first single Different Kids. The follow up Want to Believe is released today, Sunday 24 May and see’s the band come back bigger and better than ever.
When asked about the meaning behind the track, drummer and lyricist Jamie Martin said:
Lyrically this song tackles quite a few personal issues whilst focussing on the main theme of feeling uncomfortable or overly comfortable in relationships.
Want to Believe opens immediately with vocals before the guitars and drums kick in to set the blistering rhythm which gives the track its fantastic melody and a fabulous energy.
The lyrics describe those moments in relationships when you are at different places, there are a couple of lines that stick out for me, the first when the words are simply “I don’t like you anymore the one I used to adore” and the other is when they sing “Is it out of touch I am essentially researching how to be removing the insta I will try to convince ya we have grown”.
There is also a catchy as fuck chorus which although I couldn’t quite make out all the lyrics, starts “and she’s looking at you while your eyes are on the ceiling and its depending on you when……“ is certainly going to be one that will be belted back at the band when played live.
Post Rome were a new band to me, but are now firmly on my radar. Want to Believe is a top track, it’s got a great melody, has you bouncing about as you listen and once I work out all the lyrics I will certainly be singing along to that ear worm of a chorus. It’s just a gloriously good pop rock banger.
