Martin Leary - All In Good Time

Martin Leary is an indie rock and alternative artist based originally from Prestwick, now based in Glasgow.

Leary grew up loving music, gigging around local venues with his band from age seventeen and he is currently making plans to put together a new band and start touring again.

But whilst doing this the last year has seen him quite prolific as a solo artist, releasing his debut EP The Fear in November last year. He followed up this in 2020 releasing the singles Let It Go and Walk In The Sun.

His latest EP All In Good Time was released on Friday 2 October and was recorded at GlasgowHQ studio, featuring production and collaboration with Gregeor McPhie.

The opening track is All In Good Time and is a throwback to 90’s indie, it’s got that feel good vibe and has you toe tapping along in seconds.

Sleeps Alone could have come right off one of the later Beatles albums, fantastic melodies, a great hook with the chorus and some psychedelic beats infused throughout.

The amps are turned up for Find the Light, this has a heavier guitar vibe, this is straight forward indie rock’n’roll, some frighteningly good hooky guitar riffs and solos, a great rock vocal and a killer ear worm of a chorus. This is gonna have you foot stomping along.

The rock’n’roll vibe continues with I Often Wonder, it has a great bluesy melody to it, guitar riffs driving the track from the off, once again there is a chorus that will stick with you long after the song is finished.

The EP ends with the stripped back version of All In Good Time, perfect way to end as the strings give the track a real chilled vibe, time to put your feet up and enjoy the fantastic vocals of Leary.

Martin himself says:

Music is a form of meditation, it’s amazing for the mind. It just takes you somewhere else in your head and helps you detach from the stresses in life

It’s hard to argue with those words when you listen to the EP, it does that brilliantly, a great collection of tracks, each one leaving you with a different memory.

Ashamedly I have to admit to not having known about Martin prior to reviewing the EP, but he is now definitely on the radar and I look forward to hearing more in the future and hope that his ambitions of putting together a band come to fruition. I for one would love to hear these sounds recreated live on stage !
