Marseille - She Knows a Place
Marseille are a young rock’n’roll band from Derby. Will Brown (vocals/guitar), Tom Spray (drums) and Joe Labram (guitar/bass) play music reminiscent of the 90's Madchester scene whilst trying to bring their own individual influences.
In 2021 despite Covid-19 disrupting the music scene. Marseille kept busy, releasing their debut single, aptly entitled Worlds Gone Mad and two further releases Shout It Out Loud and State of Mind.
All of the tracks achieved plenty of attention and airplay and Shout It Out was named track of the week by BBC Introducing last May.
The band hit the road to promote their songs and accrued an impressive thirty three live shows across the UK culminating on the high of playing to four hundred people at Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms at the end of the year.
On their new track She Knows a Place frontman Will Brown had this to say:
I was sitting around bored and decided to write a ‘Beatlesy’ ballad about a girl who takes you away to get off your face, and then getting lucky afterwards. But as the song evolved it gathered energy, becoming more in your face, drawing in elements of the Sex Pistols, The Beach Boys and Oasis’s Definitely Maybe.
We are introduced to She Knows a Place by a crashing drum beat before the fuzzy guitar riffs kick in to give us a fast paced slice of pure indie rock. You can certainly hear the Oasis influence on the track both in vocal style and the guitars but there is enough of their own sound shining through to make it a lot more than a copycat.
In truth She Knows a Place is an adrenaline filled rush given to us by a young band who have a big future ahead of them.
