The debut release from the new Scottish electronic pop duo, Gefahrgeist, Fiona Liddell and Niall Rae present Graceless.

Fiona Liddell is a singer songwriter from Glasgow with a ten year music career performing with various bands and musical projects (Jack Hinks, Echo Arcadia, Loud Poets). This summer, she released a live album of original songs with her husband, Sam Thorne, on piano.

Niall (Neel) Rae is a producer and bassist from Aberdeen. With a degree in composition from Edinburgh Napier University, Niall has taken his skills to new heights with Gefahrgeist. With his creative drive and musical imagination, Niall is able to transform songs like Graceless from a simple piano piece into an eclectic pop anthem. 

It is written and performed by Fiona Liddell. It was arranged and produced by Niall Rae. It features harp from talented Edinburgh musician Esther Swift (Twelfth Day) and was mastered by Phil McBride (Midi Paul). The single’s artwork/video were created by Tyler Andrew Mortimer of Blank Page Digital Art.

Graceless was released on Friday 30 October and it’s a beautiful piece of ethereal pop, it has a gorgeous dreamy harp intro before the vocals begin and lift us up in the sky with the upbeat tone. The track continues to evolve as the synths, groovy bass and drums join the fray, together with a guitar riff that’s as smooth as the proverbial baby’s bum (now there’s a comparison I didn’t think I would ever write in a music review!) elevating us even further into that dreamlike feeling.

The vocal is fantastic, confident and keeps us fully engaged with the amazing arrangement of the track.

I love the catchy lyrics of Graceless especially the lines when Fiona sings “deep in the heart of the graceless sky is a memory and it moves as a bird, down in its heart is a melody, it will sing for you, it will sing for me”.

Graceless is a brilliant debut with it’s gorgeous vocal, ambient arrangement and some lovely lyrics make this a real dream pop anthem.

It’s a fabulous introduction to Gefarhgeist and I can’t wait to hear more, in the meantime give Graceless a stream now:
