Krytical Mass - The Future Sound of KDY

Fife based Sandy Power the singer, guitarist and songwriter in dreamy indie rock band Cornfield Chase is now breaking into the world of electronic music with his solo project Krytical Mass.

The first release by the Fifer is the quaintly titled two track EP The Future Sound of KDY, the title referring to the artists’ hometown of Kirkcaldy.

The tracks have been written, recorded and mixed by Krytical Mass and mastered by Kleopatra, who has been making waves herself with her girl/android persona and electrifying live shows.

The Future Sound of KDY was released on Friday 2 October.

Track one Future Sounds, flies at an appropriate 137bpm, the speed once referred to as Disco Heaven, apparently the perfect tempo at which to dance. Future Sounds is built upon that fast beat, over layered with repeating synths and a steady drum beat, it’s given some luxurious mix ups as it overloads the track with a bangin’ bass line and some glorious interwoven melodies.

Next up is Infinite and this is a groovy little number with the electric piano being to the fore as it creates cinema sounding beats that could come straight from a science fiction movie. There is then a huge surprise in the middle section as it jumps off the Hollywood movie set and straight onto a float at the Notting Hill carnival with its rhythmic beat, it’s steel drum sound and agogo bells giving it a Caribbean vibe before the track reverts to its cinemascape.

It’s a fantastic EP from Krytical Mass with two tracks completing contrasting in beat and sounds but both offer that essential club requirement of danceability!!

The Future Sound of KDY is the perfect choice to chill on these darker Autumnal evenings and let the sounds get into your head as you nod along to the bangin’ beats.

The EP has piqued my interest in Krytical Mass and I look forward to hearing more from the project and to discover how the sound is developed.
