Carousel - Feeling
Carousel are a Dundee indie rock quartet, they are Bradley Kennedy (vocals/guitar), Ryan Thain (guitar), Ronnie Falconer (bass/vocals) and Chris Wood (drums).
They have enjoyed success over the years, they have headlined Glasgow’s legendary King Tuts and were also the band that opened Scotland’s very first TRNSMT Festival in July 2017.
They are back with their first single in over a year as Feeling is released today, Friday 3 July.
When asked about the track Bradley explains:
This is a tune we should have always put out. Always seemed to be everyone's favourite live tune. It got on the end of our debut EP as a demo and we always promised we would release it but never got round to it so here it is.
Feeling highlights a different side to the four piece's usual rockier style, as it abandons their usual guitar led catchy hooks and is replaced by an emotive stripped back piano melody.
The track is used to showcase Bradley’s vocal as it allows him to explore some darker emotions through his heartfelt lyrics and the grandiose sound created by the piano.
The lyrics are simple but create a dramatic image right from the off as he sings “you tell me now that I’m on my own, you tell me now I better leave you alone, you’ve got to hold on to that feeling, you’ve got to hold on to that feeling, and never let it go….go…”.
This is a fan favourite when played live, I can see why as the songs layout is perfect for a singalong, it creates space and has the perfect lyrics of “you’ve got to hold on to the feeling, you’ve got to hold on to the feeling, you’ve got to hold on to the feeling, you never let it go, you never let it go”, easy to remember so will have the whole crowd singing it back at them.
Feeling is a fantastic track and it’s great to see them finalise the demo and release it to the world, it brings a completely new dimension to their music and it will be very interesting to see how they utilise the two contrasting styles going forward.
I’m really looking forward to new material and the chance to go so them live again once gigs are back on the horizon.
