Macatier - Lacerations

Macatier is the pseudonym of Dan Dudek-Brown, a DIY indie-punk multi-instrumentalist based in Bristol, UK, who has played alongside Saves the Day, Brand New, The Xcerts and Jim Lockey.

Influenced by The Gaslight Anthem, Jamie T and the White Stripes, he started writing music in 2012. Through combining a unique hybrid of acoustic guitar, punk rock and indie, Macatier has self-released four EPs, generated thousands of online streams and played over 100 shows.

2012 saw the release of his debut EP A Year From Now, with his follow-up The Outside World coming shortly after in 2013. The following year saw the release of Macatier’s third EP This Boat is Definitely Sinking, which was released to positive reviews. In 2017, the Epilepsy EP hit the music scene and garnered even more acclaim.

Now Macatier is back with his debut full-length album Native Noise which will be released on Spotify and Apple Music on 31 July 2020.

In advance of the debut album, he is releasing the lead single Lacerations today, Friday 19 June.

Lacerations is a short blast of angst punk, dealing with either one of two things or both depending on how it’s interpreted, either chronic pain or chronic drug use.

It’s got a fantastic guitar riff which engages you with the track from the get go, and has a really strong vocal.

The guitar hook and drum beat helps the song skip along, and will get you moving with its beat. Lyrically, it’s a darker song exploring the aforementioned subjects, it kicks off with the lines “infection has found its way in creeping up in to my insides, both legs scarred forever, my body’s aching all the time, nice cut remove the ether dressings cover my bedroom floor, razor pains been here for weeks now, tramadol doesn’t work anymore”.

The chorus of “I don’t want to know, I just want to go, I don’t want to know, I just want to go“ is straightforward and nice and catchy.

The track then slows as Macatier sings “wake in a world with nothing by my side, trip in my arms the morphine keeps me calm”.

Lacerations is a cracking song, dealing with a difficult subject content, but delivers it in a thought provoking manner with a hugely engaging guitar riff, it’s a fantastic introduction to the forthcoming new album Native Noise released at the end of next month.
