Brooke Law - Hunger
London-born British singer-songwriter Brooke Law is someone who finds inspiration from her multi-ethnic family. Eurasian on her maternal side, with mixed Jewish relatives on her paternal side, it’s from the idea of “unity through diversity” which this talented star on the rise is influenced.
Previously supported by the BBC Asian & BBC Introducing Essex Networks, who named Brooke as one of their 'Artists to Watch' at the end of 2019, her music regularly receives airplay, as well as featuring on playlists in Jigsaw, Phase Eight and Links of London.
Brooke's entire ethos is focused around themes of gender equality and embracing individuality. She's an active voice standing up against the issue of domestic violence, her efforts have included, fundraising for victims, partaking in marches and even appearing on Sky News to spread awareness.
Brooke Law released Hunger on 25 March, following her serenely melancholic take on Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton.
Hunger is a profoundly spirited original single. Brooke continues her finesse for beautifully conveying emotion and a sense of reality through her songs.
Detailing when obsession takes control, Hunger represents the feelings of emptiness & being swallowed whole by something unachievable. It is deeply instilled with passion and a desire for change, and Brooke’s earthy voice carries the dark, alt-rock single to memorable heights.
On the song itself Brooke says:
I was inspired to write Hunger when trying to overcome my own OCD and figuring out where it stems from. I know a lot of people deal with similar issues, so I hope this song goes some way in helping others to not feel alone. I hope it encourages people to talk about it.
So Hunger is a tuuuune, it has a soft rock feel to it, great guitar riffs and excellent bass and drums which set up a great rhythm for the track. Brooke has a fantastic vocal which really drives this song as her well crafted lyrics describe her own very personal OCD issues, particularly when she sings my “body is stuck in my head, I am I am a mess”.
I loved this song and have checked out her back catalogue, she has released some banging tunes and is definitely very much on my radar as a future star.
