Walt Disco - Cut Your Hair
Walt Disco are a Glasgow based six piece band, they are exponents of retro synth pop. If you lifted them from 2020 and placed them back into the 1980’s they would not look out of place in the slightest.
Having seen their live performance, and their personal choice of an androgynous New Romantic look they aren’t just copying the style and sound of the 1980’s, they have transformed it into a contemporary sound for today.
In their sound they clearly draw on influences from the Scottish post-punk of The Associates and Orange Juice.
They are currently working on their debut EP, Young, Hard and Handsome, although this may be delayed a bit due to the current Covid 19 virus. The good news is that the first single from the EP, Cut Your Hair is being released today, Wednesday 29 April 2020.
It was written in late 2018 and has been a staple of their live set since 2019 and they have recently incorporated their own dance routine for it, so it’s great to see it get released as a single.
At a little over two minutes Cut Your Hair is a short blast of everything that Walt Disco bring to the table, guitar riffs, exotic synths, heavy bass, drums, tongue in cheek vocals, it’s a journey into their world of punk synth pop.
The song is about not judging people by how they look and is a rallying cry and anthem to fight against prejudice based on appearance.
It’s a bloody good song, lots of opera in the songs rhythm and is a great piece of attention grabbing, in yer face synth pop which will make you smile and will have you trying to learn the dance…...tiktok !!!
