The Joyful Sadness - Perfect Alibi
Just over three weeks from the release of the debut single Memories of You, The Joyful Sadness are back with new single Perfect Alibi.
The Joyful Sadness is a New Wave/Post Punk/ Synth based project hailing from Preston, UK. They create powerful, emotionally cathartic music in order to heal trauma from the past in order to move on to the future. They take influences from bands such as The Cure, Killing Joke, Joy Division, New Order, Siouxie and the Banshees, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Molchat Doma, David Bowie and Bauhaus.
When asked about the story behind the song The Joyful Sadness said:
Perfect Alibi is about being stuck in a toxic relationship, being gaslighted and fed many lies. It’s about wanting to do anything for that person without knowing what they’re really doing to you, until you get dropped and don’t know what to do with yourself as you were so invested. Later you realise what was happening, and realise that being let go was the best thing to happen to you.
This song is a rant, a release of feelings surrounding the situation. Something I’ve wanted to say to that person but never got the chance to, so instead I did it through song.
Perfect Alibi is released today, Saturday 23 May 2020 and is another electro synth banger.
The rhythm is set by right from the outset by sharp drums and some dark atmospheric synths, it’s got a great catchy melody and immediately has you bobbing your head and tapping your feet, it definitely grabs your attention as you wait on the vocals coming in.
Again The Joyful Sadness tackle difficult issues impacting on mental health, the song is about the effects of a toxic relationship and the feelings it leaves behind, the lyrics are dark and emotive, I think this is summed up perfectly in the chorus “take your precious time, to leave me with your lies, I stared into your hollow eyes the emptiness inside, fake forever, pretend pleasures, your shadow in my mind, the flaws in all my thoughts your perfect alibi”.

This is for the ones who have been broken, this is for the ones who have been gaslighted, this is for the ones who have lost themselves in someone else, this one is for you.
Perfect Alibi is another fantastic track, the music bridging the darker message of the lyrics, to bring a touch of joy with the sumptuous melody that it delivers.
The Joyful Sadness have now delivered two absolute banging electro synth tracks in a row and are definitely to be watched, get tuned in now, before they rocket, so you can say I was a fan from the start !!
