Ed Cosens is a singer/songwriter, producer and founding member of Reverend and the Makers.

Best known as the guitarist/bassist and co-songwriter in Reverend & The Makers, Ed has spent fifteen years conquering the charts and touring the world, yet leaving the limelight to others.

With If, the debut single from for his forthcoming solo album, Fortunes Favour (due early 2021), Ed is stepping out of the shadows to take centre stage and is finally ready to reveal his true self.

When asked about the move to release a solo album Ed says:

It’s only taken 10 years or so for me to find the confidence! I subscribe to the fine wine way of thinking, allow things to mature fully before enjoying. Nobody wants to be Lambrusco!

If was released yesterday, Friday 16 October, it was produced by Dave Sanderson and was recorded at Giant Wafer studios in Wales.

The track kicks off with some melancholic guitar riff and an accompanying drum beat, but his clever use of the guitar riffs allow the track to built in anticipation to the delivery of the chorus and the words “how can I let my heartbreak if I’m breaking it myself ?, how can I end the heartache, if I’m crying out for help” will stick in your head long after the song ends.

The vocals themselves are fantastic, delivered in a sombre tone to match the lyrics that are reflective of life’s struggles and the paths that one may walk.

If is a huge marker as the lead single from the aforementioned debut album. If the rest is as good as this then we are in for something very special indeed.

With If, Ed Cosens has certainly announced his arrival into the music scene as a solo artist as step out into the sunlight and starts to cast his own shadow.
