Drive are an electronic, eclectic, genre bending, duo from Newcastle Upon Tyne. Jake Fletcher provides vocals and plays guitar and Andy Bell plays guitar and keyboards.

Drive are influenced by some of their favourite artists, The Blue Nile, Bleachers, Phoenix, The 1975 and Arcade Fire to name a few.

Inspired by the films of John Hughes, analog and the mediums of 80’s nostalgia, Super8, Polaroids, VHS and Cassette Tapes feed their imagination like they are discovering the medium with fresh eyes and impassioned energy, for the very first time.

Drive’s official debut single, Old Cassette Tape, is released today, Friday 10 July on Soul Kitchen Recordings.

This is a fantastic electro pop banger, it’s got a gloriously chilled feel good melody, it’s one of those tracks that you roll the windows down on a Summer’s day and belt the words out as you drive along.

Old Cassette Tape has a rhythm set by the electronic drums and a smooth guitar riff, complemented by the keys and a compelling vocal.

Lyrically it describes looking for something that is just waiting to be discovered, like the first sparks in a relationship, I love the verse “caught by surprise like the first time, like the first time, adored you’re idolised, like the first time, like the first time, coax me out this cage, yeah”.

It has an ear worm of a chorus “All I’ve ever known is right here waiting, all I’ve ever known don’t hesitate, all I’ve ever known is right here waiting, all I’ve ever known is it too late”, that’s guaranteed to have you singing along.

I believe Old Cassette Tape may be the first single from a forthcoming EP and boy it’s set the bar high. It’s a fantastic feel good coming of age pop banger, there is no other way to describe it other than as outstanding.

It grabbed my attention from the opening beats, it will do the same to you, get it added to your playlists now, it’s a song that might very well frame your summer !
