Hailing from deepest, darkest Derbyshire, singer/songwriter Charlie Gibson, aka Chork, specialises in crafting no-nonsense rock based superlative blues tunes which draws heavily from his love of the last few decades of British rock.

Since Charlie began performing as Chork, he has sold out a headline show at Tunbridge Wells' Trinity Theatre and has a number of festival slots under his belt. Citing British indie legends such as The Libertines and Artic Monkeys within his influences, it's clear to hear the ramshackle mood of Pete Doherty mixed with the lyrical brilliance of Alex Turner within the music of Chork.

Old New Love comes out today, Friday 12 June, and has a real classic rock feel to it from the immediate guitar hook which pulls you instantly into the track. It’s classic guitar driven rock, charming melodies and drum beats.

The track has a great balance with vocal harmonies and tremolo guitar tones, interjected with the bass drum and the occasional soaring guitar solo.

Old New Love is an emotionally charged song that touches on broken relationships that everyone has experienced, I liked the very descriptive line “something warming and lovely about being in love with no contact” whilst probably describing memories of that love but fittingly apt during this pandemic.

It’s also got a very engaging chorus “I can’t hide how I feel about you now, I can’t hide how I feel about you now”. This will go down well in a live set.

The overall vibe on Old New Love is a mix of rhythm with powerful hooks that carry real explosiveness and will be a staple for years to come in Chork’s live shows. This is a song that will have you bouncing along in a matter of seconds.

Chork was completely unfamiliar to me before I was asked to review the song, but what a fantastic gift to be given, this is modern rock showcased at its very fucking best.
